*arbitrary point system that i am making it up as i go along*
i get up at 2 am with adam. i did not just let him 'cry-it-out' and wake up the other two members of my family. i rocked him back to sleep and have myself back in bed in less than 20 minutes.
35 points.
jenna climbs into bed with us just before dave's alarm goes off. i roll over and put a pillow on my head. dave gets up, takes her down stairs where he changes her diaper, gets her a drink and puts dora on for her. davids point? LOTS! mine=
0 points.
adam's calling for me less than 15 minutes later. i jump up and get him and return his 'good morning' smile.
10 points.
i relax on the floor for a few minutes and let adam roam around and climb on me. i kiss david goodbye as he heads out the door (@730) and get back to making no effort to get a start on the day.
0 points.
8am rolls around, and i am just now changing adam's diaper and nursing him. he is dressed and tormenting his sister in less than 10 minutes. i ask jenna what she wants for breakfast and she gives me her normal response, 'nothing'. i give her 1/2 an english muffin and a banana. she says thank you. adam attacks jenna's plate that is on the kids table, so i put him in his chair for some yogurt and banana with pieces of bagel. he likes it and is happy.
25 points.
i convince jenna that she needs to get dressed and have her hair combed. she says 'no' so i am forced to use my way with words to get her pajamas off and her into my lap to get her hair combed. it works. i have a bowl of cereal and share a few bites with the begging baby.
20 points.
the phone rings. i answer it.
5 points.
i talk to my sister about her kid-free vacation for 45 minutes while my kids happily watch tv.
0 points.
adam is fussing at me, so i rock him and get him ready for his morning nap. he lays down without a tear, so i am able to get dressed.
10 points.
i open my drawers and grab my favorite pair of jeans. um, they don't smell clean. yuck. i wear them anyways.
0 points.
wash face, brush teeth, apply makeup in an effort to not spend the day looking like a frumpy mom.
10 points.
find jenna downstairs and scoop her into a big bear hug. she wants to play airplane, so i lay down and lift her with my legs a few times. that counts as a workout, right? we jump and dance. i get her a drink. i noticed the kids journals on the shelf so i grab a pen to record a short entry into each of them. jenna 'helps'.
30 points.
get the stuff together to head out for some errands. adam wakes up, so we load into the car. stop at home depot to look into paint colors for my kitchen. find a few colors that very closely match our tile. leave the store without spending a single penny.
25 points.
load into carseats for the drive across the parking lot to kohls. enter the store in search of new shoes for jenna. find some cute options, and then find some other cute options that are 70% off.
40 points.
try 3 pairs on her. go back to the shelf to get the bigger size. pick up both of adam's shoes and both of his socks that he has pulled off and dropped on the ground.
10 points.
jenna follows me to the shelf and picks off a cute pair of pink pool sandles. they are her size and on clearance- woo hoo! we try them on her and she dances around in them. i hear her dancing and singing as i walk to see if maybe i could buy some shoes in the next few sizes since they are such as awesome price for cute shoes.
10 points.
jenna is now circling the isles in the shoe department, dancing and skipping in her new sandles. i'm thinking to myself while checking the sizes of every pair of shoes on the shelf, 'i have such a great daughter that is so cute'.
10 points.
i return to the bench, where adam's stroller is parked, with some other shoes for her to try. i call her name. nothing.
-20 points.
i call her name again. nothing.
-40 points.
10 seconds of panic has passed as i make eye contact with the other few mom's in the shoe department and they just shake their heads.
-30 points.
5 more seconds as i run this way and that way calling her name.
-60 points.
a grandpa and grandma couple wave me down. i run around the corner. they point to the other side of the store. still panicking.
-60 more points.
they ask what her name is. i tell them and they call for her with me. she comes running, and continues skipping the second she sees me.
0 points.
i catch my breathe and thank the couple profusely.
10 points.
i take her hand and lead her back to the shoe department where adam is chilling in his cart chewing on a shoe that he managed to reach from the nearby bench. i lecture her about how scared i was and how she is suppose to stay close and i hug her tight.
0 points.
as i am about to pay $20 for her three pairs of shoes, i turn to her and she is yet AGAIN not by my side.
-200 points!
'Jenna!'
-400 points!
she comes running with a grin and says boo! apparently it's all a game to her.
deep breath.
0 points.
being a mom is so fun sometimes! i am seriously considering buying a leash for her. maybe something pink. yes, she was 'missing' for less than a minutes, but still. NOT okay.
anyone keep track of my current score? yeah, me neither.

Negative 450. I'm quite certain that I haven't surfaced from the negative quadruple digits for quite some time. You are going to have to pick up the pace if you are going to catch up...er, catch down....whatever.
and your morning started off so good...
You can't give yourself -600 pts for her "game." Now, if you said something like "Girl! I'm gonna' take a strap to you..." or spanked her on the spot (which I wanted to do to a certain 5 yo in Target today), you would have deserved -600 pts. And by the way, putting on make up is worth more than 10 pts. I say you are definitely on the positive side.
I agree with the above. After I've been up with my baby- make-up is more than 10 pts!
oh my gosh I just had a mini-panic attack, how dare you almost lose Jenna! When she went runnung towards you in Tillys at Arizona Mills the other day I almost freaked, what if some scary person could have snatched her while she was in between the two of us? Good Grief, Pudge will never be allowed to go shopping, he'll be on home arrest!
you deserve way more mom points than you give yourself credit for!
I've lost track of Angela before, as well as Justin once! It is a scary thing! And I agree with the above posts... you definitely deserve more *mom points* than you gave yourself! I rarely get make-up on most the time! lol You sound like an amazing mom!
Very Cute. (the post, not missing Jenna)
I have had those moments in stores before as Caroline is a wanderer, and it's THE worst feeling ever.
I bet that Dave would give you at least 10 points for the off-to-work-kiss!
Oh that makes me nervous just reading about it, Im sorry you had to deal with that stess or thought even if it was less than a minute! I would be all over a leash if she wants to play such a fun little game. And I still think your day should have ended with positive points not in the negative, it was such a good morning:)
I give you 100 points for talking to me. I am now on the lookout for a leash too. Don't lose her - I like her.
I'm glad you found Jenna and she was OK. That had to have been so scary. I love reading your blog. You do such a great job, I'll have to get some tips from you. Your life is so much more interesting then mine! :)
