we have had a not-really-busy, but eventful holiday weekend. it all started wednesday night, just before midnight...
i heard jenna cry- loudly- and dave with her. i jumped out of bed, to find him trucking her to the tub, covered in yucky goo. she had thrown up all in her bed. while dave cleaned her up and got her changed, i tried to clean up her crib, along with the carpet under it (yuck). i nearly gagged about three time. we got things mostly cleaned up, and jenna in fresh jammie, and settled into the rocking chair with her. it wasn't ten minutes later that she was sick again- this time in our room, and all over herself again. poor thing. this is how the night continued. david and i were both half dressed, along with jenna, because everything keep getting yucky. she would fall asleep for a few minutes and then wake up to be sick and cry because it felt so aweful. i could feel her little belly contracting, and it just broke my heart. we tried to keep her upright, but no one could get comfortable. dave took her downstairs for a few hours at one point so i could rest, but we all ended up in bed together. around sunup, i decide to give up, and took her downstairs to be awake, and hopefully give dave a few hours of rest.
it was just so frustrating as a parent. we are suppose to help our children- make everything better- and i couldn't do anything for her, besides cuddle her and tell her it would be okay.
she did take a morning nap, which allowed dave and i to prepare our part of thanksgiving dinner. she slept for 3-4 hours, and was up just in time to get ready to head over to dinner. david and i felt like the walking dead. we are aware that we have become VERY dependent on 8-9 hours of sleep each night, and so the 2-3 choppy hours we might have squeezed out of the night before just weren't cutting it. we ate and visited with family and had a good time. we lasted the 3 hours and helped clean up, but then headed right home for a 3 hour nap. we missed football. we missed celebrating caleb's birthday. we missed browsing the sale adds. i missed the movie outting. but jenna was feeling better. dave and i were not doing so well. upon going to bed that night around 9 ish, i was debating whether or not to get up and shop the next morning. (it's a scott tradition. all of us girls get up before dawn and hit the sales. i never buy much, but it's fun being together in the craziness.) so i set the alarm for 3 am, and decided that i would see if i could stand up, and if so, i was going. well, i made it, and even though i wasn't feeling super great, i'm glad i made it. we had fun being part of the crowds and getting part of the deals. when i walked in the house at 10:30, dave was rocking jenna, and told me that she had throw up again, and that he was feeling aweful. at that point, we made the call not to drive to phoenix. i was SUPER bummed about it, but also looking forward to a lazy weekend.
jenna ended up being okay. she is still not eating much (she just shakes her head and says 'no' to just about everything) but she has slept great at night and taken good naps for us. david and i are still feeling flu-ish, but i hope it passes by tomorrow. on saturday, during nap time and a moment of clarity, we were able to get alot of work done in the garage. we finished making the shelves, and painting them. they look great! (i will have to post pictures later this week).
so overall, this thanksgiving weekend was a bust. i was excited about a delicious dinner. i was looking forward to spending time in phoenix with my family and eating my mom's savory stuffing. i so wanted to eat my share of the nearly 30 lbs turkey that she cooked. i wanted to hang out with my sister and her family who i haven't been able to spend any time with since early june. instead, we sat around feeling crappy.
as jenna kept us up all night, i felt completely helpless as a parent. she was misserable, and there was nothing i could do. today we are once again, just lounging around feeling yucky. jenna is finishing her 2 1/2 hour nap, dave is sleeping on the couch in front of a football game, and i am blogging. good times.

Yikes. We've definately been there with the middle of the night vommiting. It's so hard when they can't even tell you they feel sick - you just know they do and feel terrible for them! And oh, the laundry. That's the worst kind of laundry! Poor Jenna! (and dave and heather!)
As the sister who brought you this illness, I whole-heartedly apologize. We only had the one-day version, fortunately, but I guess our pungent EP germs were too much for you. I'm sorry that your turkey day was over-stuffed with puke. If it helps at all, Alex and Ben prayed for you - alot.
I've been thinking about you guys all weekend.. so sorry your holiday didn't turn out as planned and I can also relate to that helpless feeling when your child is sick. We missed you for much of the fun stuff but glad you were there for the shopping!
that is just not fun! I hope she is feeling better and hopefully you guys don't get it!! It's so sad when they don't feel good and there is nothing you can do about it!!
We went to little anthony's tonight...we thought we might see you guys there again...Ethan was very disappointed_Adam
