community of moms

that's the way i look at it. i am surrounded by moms. moms at church that i see and learn from each week. moms on facebook that update their status with questions, or reply to my references about my small ones. moms that read my blog and allow me to read theirs. we are all in this together. it's nice! i have become better friends with people, just because we both have small kids. be it girls i went to girls camp with and had the occasional conversation, or girls i knew casually from the institute, or girls that i was good friends with before we all got married and scattered; it is so great to reconnect and share our stories.

20 years ago, long distance phone calls cost lots of money. keeping in touch was hard work- which mostly included birth announcements and the yearly Christmas card letter. i am so grateful for the chance to share my kids with so many people. i love that their grandmas can 'see' them everyday, and read the latest things that they are doing. i love that i can post about a struggle i am having, and get advice or even sympathy (or empathy, i always get those two mixed up?). i love that i can 'brag' about my kids latest accomplishment, and know that most of you are happy to hear about them. i love knowing what's going on with my nieces and nephews who are 2 miles up the street, in another city, in another state, or even in another country. i love laughing at things that your kids are doing, and stealing your ideas to help keep them entertained.

i once heard someone say, 'i love being a mom, but i want to do so much more with my life'. yeah, my jaw dropped. what more could we be doing with our life but giving it to someone else? don't get me wrong, i have personally aspirations; i would like to have a career that i love someday. do i long to go back to school when all my kids are bigger? yes, but i know that right now, no matter how monotonous our life can be, i wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

sometimes i remind myself (and dave constantly reminds me) that for every thing there is a season. our current season is that of the crazy little kid/baby years- so we mights as well enjoy it and soak it up the best we can. we talk about vacations that we can't wait to take when Jenna, Adam and their younger siblings (birth dates still tbd) are old enough to remember. we talk about trips that we want to take just us, and send the kids to spend time with their cousins. that will happen soon enough, so right now, we try to focus on what we can do.

thank you for reminding me what's important and making me smile with stories of your kids. be it kids i've yet to met, or those whose weddings i will attend, i love them all. thanks for being my friends. thanks for helping me be the best mom i can be.

that's all, and i promise the next post will have pictures.

You were a pretty good mom well before you had children. Just think, when you reach TEN years - you'll have an almost 9 year old, an almost 7 year old and several more - buying back to school clothes and supplies, preparing to be buried in homework and PTA work. Glad I can entertain you with my interesting children.
